The pannels from LMC are actually quite thick. They were a thicker gage than the good metal in my original doors. I rebuilt the inner part of the lower door from some of the metal I did not use from the front door skin.

Here are a few pics of my progress....

I had mine repaired by an excellent body shop guy--he's an artist, really, works on high-end stuff (Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, other luxury stuff) that has tighter body joints than most American cars. So I knew he'd do well with this repair. He cut out the rusted areas, welded in new metal, and did all the priming and painting. On a side note, he also pointed out that the gray along the bottom of my doors didn't match the gray along the bottom of my bed, and I never noticed it until the truck was parked under a fluorescent street lamp! Then I was like, "Whoa!" So he did the door repair and painted the bed rockers as well for around $500. He's done a few of them and also reported about the water getting in. An added issue is that Dodge used a sound-deadening foam inside the doors that (surprise!) holds moisture and rusts the door from the inside. So he burned all that out, did the metal repair, prep/paint, and put drain holes in it to allow water to drain out. So far, it's held up great, going into the second winter post-repair. Also in NEPA here.
