loud window when rolled down

when i roll the window down in my 1995 dodge cummins it has a really high pitch squeal to it but if i pull the window from the outside in when rolling the window up or down it stops is there an adjustment track or something in the door itself to adjust this or any good ideas on how to get ride of this it isnt a very pleasant sound

Like any moving parts the door channels need to be lubed periodically. About every 6-7 years or so I do mine. You'll have to pull the door panel off, disconnect any power connections (like windows) etc., that tie the door panel to the door and lay the door panel in the bed of the truck or somewhere where it won't get damaged. Then inspect the operation of the regulator while you roll the window up and down--if there are missing or damaged rollers, these will need to be replaced, and you'll have to pull the regulator to do that. Assuming there are no missing rollers and the window works as it should you can lube it. There are roller channels inside the door that nylon rollers roll in. Find them by reaching inside the door, with the window up and feel for them. There will be one bolted to the bottom of the glass, and I think one other. Lube these by dipping an acid brush into some grease and brush a nice layer of grease into both channels. Then grease the regulator pinion gear and the pie-wheel. Take a spray can of 100% silicone spray and spray the felt run channels--one at the back of the door and one at the front. Spray the lower ones with the window up, and then roll the window down and spray the upper parts of the run channels. That will make your window a lot happier, it should roll up and down easier, and it should stop the noise.

Sure! It's easier to remove the door panel by buying a little spatula-type tool available at most auto parts stores. You insert it between the door panel and the door at each "keeper" and just pry.

Pry gently, the tabs the little "christmas tree" clips reside in are easy to snap off. Don't buy replacements from the dealer, they want 2.50 each and there are 12 per door. Get 'em from Fastenal or try Napa. There are 2 behind and above the armrest and 10 around the perimeter from the screw at the upper forward corner down around to where the lock is at the upper rear corner.

I spray silicone spray on the rubber seals and down the window channels about twice a year on my truck and they are quiet and operate easily.

PS. Its almost a lot easier to reinstal the christmas tree clips into the door panel, then gently press the door panel into place while lining up the trees with their holes.

Get the two buggers at the top in first then its cake.

Great information! Thanks guys . . . I have the exact same thing going on with the passenger side window in my '95. I have ignored it for years but now that I know its a cheap easy fix I guess I'll have to tear into it this weekend. It truly is a awful noise . . .

Your windows will not only sound better and work easier, but the motor will last longer too.
