Lights

My left rear brake light quit working, also my blinker arrow on the dash flashes a lot faster than normal to the left. Right side is ok, but left blinkers dont work either. Is the blinker and brake light problem connected?

Turn light and brake light are the same. I am not sure if there is seperate fuses for the two sides. Someone else will chime in and correct me I hope. Make sure you put the bulb in and that the contacts are not corroded.

Contacts look good, so do the fuses. The bottom light comes on when in reverse.

I once went through 3!!! new bulbs before I got one that worked. Perhaps the package of bulbs came with some dead ones already. It is a frustrating experience...I replaced the bulb....replaced it again...and again...talked to my neighbor who put one of his in and it worked. If you have a continuity tester you might want to check if the bulbs are good...even if they are new and the filament looks good sometimes the contacts are just not well made and it won't work. Hopefully that is the problem. Your symptoms do sound like a dead bulb.

Do you have a cap (camper top) or trailer hitch wiring that may have gone bad and is messing up? When you turn on your turn signal does the front still flash? The only reason I ask is because they usually tie into the left light cluster when they wire in a trailer or extra brake light like you would find on a cap. It seems like, if it is not a bulb, you have an electrical gremlin which needs to be found. Unfortunately I am getting toward the end of my knowhow in this specific area...I will continue to "help" as best as I can.

good luck!

I had that happen to my '81 Chevy 4x4. The wires melted together at the fuse box under the steering column. They used really thin wire.
