No one I've ever heard claims tapping the wire increases the life of the VP44. The debate rages whether tapping really hurts it. Several people have, however, claimed that a good set of mild to moderate injectors will make life a little easier on the HO (ETH) VP44. It makes sense, but I have no proof.
Maybe someone else knows more about the injector thing.

You can see in my sig how long mine lasted. I have tried to use Power Service with every fill up since about 55,000 miles.
