Keyless Entry
Yes they were, but an option. You could run a VIP summary or according to the FSM, one of the features of the RKE was a central locking feature, where if you used the key to lock either of the doors from the outside, both doors would lock. You could check by making sure both locks were up, and locking it weith the key from the outside. It is also supposed to automatically lock the doors above 20 MPH if I read it right. Standard non RKE trucks do not do either.
mopar, is there also a kit for 97's?
I would like to add it to greenie, but only for some of the other features, such as no buzzer with the key in and door open, and door unlock with key in.

I am not sure if there is a kit for 97's, but I assume there would be. I added to my 01, with the kit from chrysler but all it does is give me keyless. It didnt give me any of the other options that came with it factory installed, like lights flashing when doors locked with remote dosen't happen on mine.

you can get a aftermarket remote start, keyless entry for 60-80 bucks. put one in mine a few years back and it works flawlessly. not sure on the 97 if ya have reversing polarity door locks, that makes the wiring a bit of a challenge but i still did mine in 3 hours.
