A friends 92 only peeled along the sides of the hood and behind the rear wheels.

He calls her his Appaloosa and won't get it painted.

I'd say post a pic but I can just go outside and stare at mine!

Congrats.

My '95 isn't too bad. The paint peeled on top the roof, but no one can see that high, and the clear coat has peeled on the left front fender and door, and on the hood. But if I wax it you can hardly tell the clear coat has peeled off.

My entire roof is pretty much gone, the top of right front fender and passenger door look like ***** along with the tailgate....even the precious DODGE decal on the gate is mostly gone. She still looks good from inside the cab as the hood is fine. Mechanically the rest of the truck is perfect and like I said I can't wait the see her all purrty again!

They are known as "peelers". A production run from around 92-96 had a bad paint system that caused the color to not bond properly to the primer and caused the paint to flake off, usually on the roof and hood, but the beds would peel too.

Dad got his 94 repainted in 97 and got the dealership to foot the bill.

Dodge wasn't the only manufacturer with the problem. I had an 87 Ford that got repainted. The primer was the issue- the paint wouldn't bond. The dealership sanded it all off to bare metal and started over. I was the 3rd owner.
I've seen GM products with paint peeling, too. It seemed to plague the 80's and 90's.
I have a friend with a 1st gen that looks like a dalmation.

The damm environmentalists took control of our manufacturing sector through the Dem. party and the Media. Sickening what that unholy marriage has produced.

My 94 started peeling like that. I used to watch strips of paint come off the hood and fly up and over the windshield going down the road. I bit the bullet and had a body shop take it down to bare metal and start with good primer and base coat/clearcoat. Cost a bundle but that was 5 yrs. ago and still looks like new.....

They can color the line-x any color you want, but its spendy.

A local guy has the bottom of his red QC line-x'd the gray factory color and it looks really nice, you don't notice until you are up close. His relative owns the local line-x so he wouldn't tell me what he paid but I bet for a regular customer it would be alot.

Congrats on your "new" truck.

As was common practice back in the late '90s I sued Chrysler for my peeling paint in small claims court.
They didn't show up so I won, $5000 for each truck to be chemically taken down to bare metal and repainted. Some of my paint flew off in square foot sheets.

GM and Ford had the same problem but repainted the problem vehicles for free, Chrysler was the only one who made folks jump though hoops.
GM and Ford only used the problem primer for a couple years, Chrysler used it for many years.
The damm environmentalists took control of our manufacturing sector through the Dem. party and the Media.
Actually the law that limited paint fumes was part of the Clean Air and Water Act passed by Nixon with a republican Senate and demo House.
It also created the EPA.
