Jumpy Tach
This is a strange one. Every so often....not YET enough to tear into it, the tach in my '95 jumps up and then will go to zero. This is random and engine RPM does not seem to make a difference. Does the sensor on the dampner (crank pulley) have a history of going bad? Where would you begin?

TIA
Michael
Re:Jumpy Tach
I think I would start by doing the instrument cluster diagnostic check. Hold the trip/odometer button in while turning on the ignition key. It will go through the diagnostics and give you a code if there is something wrong. If that checks ok, then the sensor is the next step. However, if the problem is intermittent, you might want to do the diagnostic at a time when it's acting up.

Gary
Do you hold the trip/odometer button in while you are starting the truck or just so that the ignition is to the on position? It sounds cool, I think I am gonna try it as long as I can't mess it up too bad!!!
Re:Jumpy Tach
Um, on my '97 the trip computer is 100% mechanical, so I assume it's the same on the '95.

Is that a trick that works on the 98.5+ trucks?

BTW, mine does the same thing, and I'm guessing it's the crank position sensor.

Tackett
