Information on doing transmission flush

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knows of any good websites with information on doing transmission flush. Most of the sites I've seen just have information on doing a basic transmission filter & fluid change.

I've got an 02' 2500 4X4 with 47RE auto transmission. I've got the service manual for the truck but I just needed some information on the right way to flush the fluid out without a machine...

I know it sounds funny but this is the first time that I'm changing the fluid & filter out on an 02'. It's only got a little over 35,000 miles on it. It didn't ever really have any rough use on it or get used for towing much at all...

Thanks for any help.

Advice from my DTT builder/installer.....w/30 years transmission experience...

DO NOT FLUSH! Drop the pan, drain the fluid, replace the trans filter with new, reinstall the pan, and refill with fresh ATF +4. Then get on a schedule and repeat say every 20-25-30K.

It doesn't get all the fluid out, but it gets most of it out and that is all that matters. If you flush it, it could stir up debris in the trans and potentially cause problems. And either way, you have to drop the pan to install a new filter.

You might also consider, if you feel like spending the money, to add a double deep Mag Hytec or some other brand tranmission pan that has a drain plug on it. It will make it easier to drain the next time and add some extra capacity to help with heat.

From: outside of H-town, Tx, thankfully
The best and safest way is to use a BG flush,,,, you can't do it yourself, but it works.

If you get on their total flush program, they'll gaurantee your whole driveline for the life of the vehicle,,,, if I remember correctly,,,,, I think you have to start the program before 36,000 miles, again if I remember right.

If the old fluid looks and smells good do exactly as TexasCTD says.
There is no need to drain all the old fluid or flush it otherwise.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. I was considering doing it this way. I just didn't know if it was a good way to do it not draining it completely.

The fluid actually still looks very good. It does not smell burnt and it actually still has some of the red color to it.

I will just do a pan drop & put a drain plug in and replace the fluid regularly.

Thanks.
