Hub bearing assemblies

Hi ever'body just a question on wheel bearings--I had a bad grease seal on the inside, passenger side front hub, and figgered I'd pull everything apart and re-pack the bearings, and install new seals...WRONG-O..
I fought to get the hub apart, and still couldn't get the outside bearing off the hub, destroyed the old bearings in the process, was I doing something wrong??, or can you re-pack these or do you have to buy a new assembly every time you get crud in the bearings?? A $10 cleanup just turned into a $250 repair for no reason...Sorry forgot to ID the truck, 96 CTD 2500 4x4 Long Box stock 8 bolt hubs

Non servicable wheel bearings........you paid a little too much for the bearing, but other than that, typical. Do a search for hub bearing removal.......look for the posts that talk about using the power steering to remove the assembly. Works great! Saves a ton of time!

Yup I ruined a perfectly good one while trying to remove it too.
Non-rebuildable and non-cheap too!
You could do an axle swap to an older type with locking hubs or spend the bucks on a dyna-trac setup, if you really dont like the unit bearings

or go with EMS offroaeds kit for less money ....... or build your own like J OOPS did. the 96 kits from EMS offroad are less than $1000 for everything

being a 96 you have the option of installing ford knuckles, ford brakes, ford spindles and hubs all froma 91-97 F350 dana 60. its not cheap but you'll have locking hubs

Do the spindle, servicable bearing and hub upgrade, $250 per side is only $500 but the day you smoke a unit bearing in Nevada with a trailer behind your truck on a satruday evening, you'll find out how much it really costs when tow trucks and hotel rooms get included in that bill.

mine just failed after 28k miles after they installed a warranty replacement. so at 78k miles since im now just outside of my warranty i installed the EMS hub conversion.

Does this work for a '97 also?
