how to remove overhead console
how to remove overhead console
Does anyone know how to remove overhead console on 2001 3500 with trip computer, garage door opener, glasses compartment.
I saw the two tabs near front to push forward and release. After that it looks like it needs to slide back but it still won't come down in front or slide back.
There must be a screw or something else still holding it up? Any help please before I break something plastic ..

Thanks. I saw that it needs to slide back. Guess I will have to put a little more power behind it ?
Hope it doesn't break.
I did see in a Haynes manual for 2002 that there are screws behind the removable lenses. My Chilton truck specific manaul didn't have any info.
Anyone with factory manual or is there a factory manaul on line accessable?

From my FSM:
REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable.
(2) Open the garage door opener storage bin door
and locate the two overhead console latch tabs near
the front of the bin (Fig. 4).
(3) While pulling gently downward on the front of
the overhead console, push the latch tabs forward
until each latch is disengaged from its receptacle in
the inner roof panel
(4) Slide the overhead console rearward far enough
to disengage the two mounting hooks on the rear of
the housing from the mounting holes in the inner
roof panel (Fig. 5).
(5) Lower the overhead console from the headliner
far enough to access the wire harness connector.
(6) Disconnect the roof wire harness connector
from the overhead console wire harness connector.

Yeah just slide it backwards and you do gotta give a little umph. Its a pain in the **** but you will get it. I had a hard time cause I have no patience whatsoever. LOL! Good luck!

Thanks guys. I got it down
and fixed the switch that blew apart and epoxied it back together.
It did come down after I put a little more forcefull jiggling and then it did slide back.
Thanks for the info.
