heated tow mirrors

Ok sorry to beat a dead horse but its starting to be colder outside and I am finding that every time I go to work or anywhere else in the morning my mirrors are still fogged up when I get there and makes it hard to see to back in.

Anyways I have a new set of 2nd gen to mirrors to replace mine as one is broken and the other dosent stay aimed right. And I got to thinking Id really like heated mirrors if Im working on it anyways.

So that means I need to order a set of third gen 02-05 heated tow mirrors obviously. The thing Im not to sure on is the wiring, what would I need?

I am thinking I would need new heater controls with the button to trun the mirror heat on, The little joystick thingy that adjusts the mirror, and some kindoff wiring harness. Is this all I would need and is this stuff readily available from the dealers or online. Or do I have to make my own sort of wiring harness. Also Im actually just more concerned with the heated mirrors then the power but I guess it would also be nice to have thanks alot, Frank

youd be better off trying to find a truck that has them and swap out the parts. youll need alot of stuff to make it all work. switches, relays, timers, harnesses, new door skins, buttons, and a whole host of other stuff im sure im leaving out. and im not sure if it hooks into the "in cab computer" that runs alot of the interior accessories so that might be another hurdle as well. buying all this from a dealer would be quite hefty im sure.

doable? sure
worthwhile? thats up to you

You got one of them You will get into a whole mess of worms if your truck doesn't have the wiring for all that. My truck hand the regular power/heated mirrors on mine and I added a set of power/heated tow mirrors I put together.

you could always but the heat pads that stick on to the back of the mirror on the inside of the plastic housing. Run a relay, switch,.. etc and be done with it if all you want is heated.

I've got everything done but the actual mirror swap. The A/C control panel w/ "heat" switch; $80 US at wrecking yard. Remote switch for door, $50 from discount Dodge parts house. All the wiring and stuff was already there. You need to cross some wires for the mirror controller harness. I guess the 3rd gens move up for down and left for right. I thought about flipping the switch upside down but haven't got that far yet. Its no big deal, just some dough. Kurt

A friend of mine did this last year on his 02. He used the power mirror control from a 97 parts truck I had, bought an A/C control panel with the heated mirror switch from E bay for $26.00. He had all the wiring in place and he thought that part was pretty simple.

Thankyou for the reply I thought that I had read on her that the wiring should be in there, I was starting to get discuaraged. So I will look for a heater control and the little joystick thing.

Are these the proper year for the swap, I thought I needed 02-05 but these are 02-06

You need the power/heated heads from those mirrors and the arms from a pair of manual 98-02 towing mirrors.. Then you need to make a pair of power/heated mirrors for your truck from the two....
It is an expensive proposition unless you can find the pieces individually and cheaper...

I am working on getting the pieces that way right now.

It can be done, just takes time or money........

You need these two mirrors for the arms....

And these two for the heads......

I allready have a set of 2nd gen mirrors becouse i was going to replace mine as ones broken and the othe other dosent stay aimed. So I'll order those third gen ones and I found the heater controls on ebay. So Ill just need the joystick thing. I think. Does it mount in the door panel right near the mirror where that round plug is?

You could get the **** mirrors and then just build a control (switch) for the power heated portion.

Most/many tractor trailers with heated mirrors are just wired up to a switch.

If you want the aiming, I would just get the relevant pieces and look at the FSM for wiring diagrams.
