Tear it put and get a new one. You can get them for $130.00 in carpet or vinyl. I just did mine and it was easy. You wouldnt believe the crud that came out of the old one! I even found a couple of .22 shells from the P.O.

This is where I got mine from.

Hey no problem.
I should have went with the rubber/vinyl floor from them.
If you do change out the carpet, soundproof the interior while your at it. It makes a HUGE diffrence. My daughter (4 years old) used to tell me "we can hear each other in Mommies car". I mean it went from a loud drone to a VERY quite interior. Probably some of the best money I spent.
It will only cost you around $75.00 more if you do it the way I did.
Let me know if you want some info. on the soundproofing materials I used.

My recommendation is if you do take off the carpet.. pour some water into the cab floor area and look for leaks under the truck.

I just took the carpet out of my truck. I poured simple green on it and wet it down. Brushed it with a course brush and power washed it off. The p.o. trashed it out and it looks pretty good now. It also smells alot better!!!

Heck I washed mine 3 or 4 times before it smelled better. The first 2 times the water looked like mud.

Well, I searched on here, TDR and various other sound forums (speakers and such).

First, I bought cans of Great Stuff expanding foam and sprayed the heck out of all the hollow cavities in the truck. There are quite a bunch of them.

Then, I found out that dynamat and the other various sound deadening materials were a butyl based sheet product.

Since I am in the building trades, I started to look around at the jobs I was on and I found one of the installers that did refrigerated restaurant coolers used a product called PROTECTO-WRAP. He gave me a roll of it and that day I stopped by Best Buy. Best Buy carries the dynamat in small squares. I bought one and took it home, and compared the two. Now, the dynamat was a little bit thicker, but not by much.

So I ended up talking to the guy who did the coolers and he told me he just buys the protecto-wrap from believe it or not, MENARDS. He said they carry 2 different kinds ones the butyl based stuff and the other is asphalt based. Now you DO NOT want the ashpalt based stuff because it smells bad.
Menards carries the butyl based Protecto-wrap by the windows in rolls that ar 4", 8", and 12" wide by I think 33'.
I used 4-4" rolls and 2-8" rolls to do a '97 DODGE Ram ex. cab. I did the whole cab including the roof in 2 layers and the back window wall in 3 layers.

Then, I also bought reflective garage door insulation. It looks like bubble wrap, but it is reflective and only 3/16" thick. They sell that stuff in 16", 24" and 48". I used 1-24" roll to do the entire cab including the roof in 1 layer. I used spray adhesive on the insulation and on the cab side, waited till it was tacky and stuck the insulation down using a formica roller.

Then, In the ex. cab part the walls are hollow (where the speakers go) so I just bought 1 roll of unfaced fiberglass insulation (pink house insulation). I took small 13 gal. garbage bags and cut the insulation square 16"x16". I put the insulation in the bags (usde 2 of them) rolled them up to get the air out and then used the spray adhesive to seal the bag shut. I then waited till they rolled back out and then shoved them in the wall cavities.
Believe it or not Dodge actually used the same stuff (insulation in a bag) and used it on the bottoms of the walls. I just put more in it.

I then installed the New Carpet, New Headliner and the rest of the interior back together.

When I was done, I loaded up the family and took it for a ride, and everyone couldnt believe how much quieter it was. My wife siad it was a night and day difference.
When we would take a trip both my Wife and I would get a headache from the drone and the kids would complain they couldnt hear anything. I can see why. There is NOTHING in the cab to quieten it.

I will be doing the underhood as soon as it warms up with the same stuff, except since it gets so hot, I got the Insulator on the job to give me 20' of duct insulation. I am going to make a blanket for the hood.

Even though I did the whole interior, youu can still hear a majority of the noise is coming from the engine.

I read on one of the forums, about a guy who has a D-max, and he did the same process I did and then he used a decibel meter and it was something like 15 decibels quieter. I will see if i can find that link.

Hope this helps.
