Ok, I have a 2001 QC LWB 2WD...

I was sitting at the dump waiting for it to open last weekend and as I sat there, I watched my fuel guage drop fro 1/2 to 1/4 tank in about 5 minutes, then slowly rise back up.

Also, I was driving one evening (last year) and the guage indicated 1/4 tank and the truck died because the pump sucked air. I got the pleasure of bleeding the injectors on the side of the road.

Any ideas, input?

I'm looking to replace the sender in the tank- I've been driving without a fuel gauge for well over a year now so I'm used to the mileage method. The question is- can I find a better sending unit than the Mopar unit? Since they all seem to be garbage- is it even worth it to replace the sender?

Just a side note my max mileage on a tank is 500 miles. I start looking for a station around 350 to 400 miles. I've run out a couple of times- not fun stuff!! Beware- diesel mileage changes dramaticly as the temps drop! With winter coming you have to adjust the miles. Also- if you run in four wheel drive thats another mileage killer. Thats how I got stuck- cold & snow- I ran out at something like 480 miles!

Also beware if your using a jake. I notice that once the IAT sensor gets sooted / oily you will also lose mileage quick.
