Fuel gage does not work

I just bought a 98 and the fuel gage does not work it will occasionally bounce (and appears to work) then the low fuel light will come on and off so how do I fix it. I think it may just be a ground wire? Any input would be great I have put in several sending units in the past but I have never experienced a gauge that would work intermittently like this.

Faulty fuel tank sending units are very common on the Dodge.

The fix is to go buy a new sending unit from the Dealer...they're about $60 bucks. And drop the tank and replace it.
Watch out the parts guy doesn't look up the whole tank pickup module by mistake...because those are $350 bucks, the sender is available separtely.

be care full though, our 99 had the sending unit replaced and no change, hit the dash right below the guage and see if it moves, if it does, its the dash and not the tank.

hi
90 % chance it is the sending unit in the tank !

good news is you can prob fix it in 3 min after you get it out
of the tank !

simply remove the arm and lightly bend the 3 contact points to properly touch the sending unit and reassembl it and reinstall it .

also if you need the screen on the bottom of the unit ask for one for a 97 as the dealer will not list one for a 98 but it is the same part ! app $14 .00

mine did the exact same thing , i fixed it 4 mounths back and gage is rock steady now !
