Front Windshield seal popped up

I was standing on the toolbox of my '01.5 waxing the roof as I do every 3 months or so, and I noticed what looks like a poorly done job of replacing the windshield at one point or another in my trucks earlier life.

There is an outline of what is probably the old windshield gasket etched into the paint, and in front of this is the current gasket which is bowed up on the drivers side. This has to be letting water in the truck when it rains. Can I do anything to fix this like get some caulk or something similar under the gasket, or is the only way around this to try to lift up and replace the gasket. If I do that, I am nervous I will break the windshield since it is so large and curved.

Does anyone else have this problem and if so how did you fix it?

This truck was previously used by a construction company in Washington state before coming to Tennessee. It is now here in the Florida sunshine (and rain), and the previous nicks, scrapes and dents are all starting to peek through the paint as rust spots. I am trying to combat this, and the windshield gasket isn't helping matters!

Thanks for any advice,

Ted

My 01 has the same problem. I had my windshield replaced after a coal truck put 2 big cracks in it. I tried to superglue it but the gasket came out again. I tend to drive 80mph+ and it would really get to flapping in the wind. I would up using duck tape until I had the glass replaced again. I asked the guy at the glass place to put a new gasket in, but its coming out again. I haven't found an adhesive that will hold it in. I guess I could slow down, hehe.

I replace my own windshields..If you want the rubber gasket to really stick.Go to the windshield shop and buy the same chauking they use for installing the windshield....That stuff sure sticks....
