Front wheel bearings 2001.5 4X4
Front wheel bearings 2001.5 4X4
While replacing the front rotors and brakes the other night I noticed that the front right bearing seemed to have a little bit of play. Looked like a bit in and out maybe. My question is can the bearing be torqued to tightened. I read that there is a preload on the hub nut and if its not torqued properly the bearing can be a bit loose. The truck only has 40,000 miles on it and its never been off road or rode hard so I'm thinking that it seems early for a bearing to start to fail. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Thanks.

Not that its worth much. My right front wheel bearing went out at about that same mileage. If there is any play, chances are the bearing is done.
The best bet would be to change it out, and when you do, add a few drops of synthetic gear lube to the new bearing. Simply pull the abs sender out, and add a bit of the lube of your choice. Reinstall the sender, and go to town.
The small amount of gear lube helps keep the grease a little thinner, and it tends to stay with the bearings longer.
