Front receiver hitches

I am looking to install a front receiver hitch on my truck. I want it for manuevering my boat trailer (mostly empty, when I will need this hitch) and for occassionaly winch use. I know thats not the ideal winch platform. But I have a Warn winch I got for free so I may as well have the ability to use it if I ever need to. And I am not interested in spending 1k+ for a new bumper etc.

It seems like most front hitches for our trucks use the sway bar mounting bolts.

I already have a DSS bolted there, and I am not sure adding yet another job for those bolts/welded frame nuts, is a good idea.

I found a front hitch made by Curt Mfg, that sandwiches on either side of the front frame. It looks very secure, but I am wondering if my DSS will be in the way.

Anyone use a Curt mfg. front hitch, or have any other suggestions/comments?

I helped funfinder5 modify a front hitch for his 05. It bolted to the front using the bumper bolts. If your truck is 2wd, it will be too low and you will hate it.

This particulad hitch requires notching the lower air **** for the receiver part to stick through so I think it wont change my ground clearance too much.

My truck is 4wd anyway, and I really don't do any four wheeling. Other than muddy farm roads or snow kind of stuff.

I didn't sensor it. Nor did I mean to write that as a curse word. Maybe I should have made airdam one word? or maybe I mispelled it and added an m, so it read as air *amn (the * being a D, do it won't get dumped again)

I apologize if an admin had to edit that, but I assure you it was simply a spelling or grammer error on my part.

Thank you Sheriffav8r, that was exactly the info I was hoping for.

BTW, how was the Curt Hitch to install? Does it seem like a quality piece? The others that bolt to the sway bar bolts obviously would be easier to install but seem less secure and strong to me.

The Curt is a high quality unit. It installs pretty easily and is solid. The only minor gripe is that the unit sits lower than I'd like. There's about a 2" gap between the top of the hitch and bottom of the bumper. I put some NorthernTool cheapo driving lights there to make lemonade out of my lemons. Looks cool and works well. I got it from JCWhitney.com (284436) for $176 plus shipping. Here's a pic:

my 03, 04, 05 and 08 have all had front tow rings. i was going to ask if anyone has welded up a front hitch using the tow ring connection plates as the attachment for the front hitch.

I love the '06 Alcoas (called the LTS-8 Spoke in aftermarket speak). I got them for $400 on e-bay. What's great is the original Hummer caps fit on these wheels on our trucks. That was a bonus....

I'm digging that Curt front receiver. I might have to spring for one of those shortly, run some wires and a plug and I could use my portable winch up front! I like...

There is a pic in my profile of my front hidden hitch. I also have a DSS and they work fine together. I use mine to put my travel trailer into a tight spot as well as another mounting location for aux lights when I need them.
