found 96 with 205000 miles

I found a 96 that looks good will look at closer tomorrow. I stopped and looked at it this morning on the way to work It looks good outside no rust and underside looks clean interior looks good from outside. Called them this afternoon it has 205000 miles on it and they want $11,999.00 . It looks like it was taken care of. What do you think of the price. Looks like it has all the options the only thing is it has an auto could live with that ??? do they really have that many Problems?

Edit: forgot its 4X4 long bed club cab

I bought my 96 with 198,000 on it and only paid $9,500. The interior on mine was perfect and only had a few paint chips for being on the road for so long. I would talk them down for sure, check it's blue book value that would give you something to show them when you negotiate.

Good Job!

You didn't let the excitement of buying a new vehicle cloud your judgement of a good deal. There are lots of trucks out there if you have the time to keep looking.

just to give you refrence. I got my 98 2500 with 150k on it for 12,700, its a 4x4 5 speed. I live about 10 miles outside philly and got the truck in quakertown. As far as options it has some nice rims, 35's, every option you can think of except leather (compass with outside temp, 8 way power driver seat, towing pkg, brake controller, bedliner and a rubber beliner insert thingy, tonneau cover, running boards, and a bunch of other stuff.

That does seem like a steep price for an 8 year old truck with over 200,000 on it. While the CTD should be durable, keep in mind that the rest of the truck is still 8 years old with 200,000 on it which means the transmission, transfer case, diffs, shocks, ball joints, seals, pumps, etc etc etc, if they haven't been replaced, will need tending too.

i just want to let everyone in on the wonders of auto detailing. As an auto detailer I know what can be done to make an 8 year old truck look nearly new to a common eye. Just because you see how well cleaned the truck is DOES NOT mean the truck is clean. The first two main selling points that you will hear from many salesman is on how clean the interior is and how well dressed up the engine is. People seem to think that because i can make an engine shiny that it is new. There are a few things that I looked for in a 2500ctd before i bought it from the dealership i work at. Look for any signs of a 5th wheel hitch that was put on and or removed. That says alot about how well beat up the tranny and or engine may be. Look at the under-carriage. You can tell the types of places the truck has been by debris stuck to the bottom(Desert driving). A truck with significant interior wear has probably not been driven on the highway much, Constant getting in and out of will most always cause tears in the seats and will more than likely mean it was an intown construction type truck(stop and go traffic, alot of starts, possible overwear on the tranny). Just think about how the damage that you see may have been caused. I see it alot more than most anyone on here, so i can put together how the damage was caused and can tell how abused the truck has been being that I see them before i make them look nearly new. Don't always think that because the truck was cleaned very well that i was a very well taken care of truck. Look for tiny things that will give away the abuse the truck may have been through. If anyone has any questions about stuff they may see, or help they may need on making their truck shiny or cleaner, just ask!

kevellis32--thanks for the info; should post that in its' own thread sometime. I might add that with a 4wd, you want to look for signs of a plow being fitted. If so, expect hard use and a possible bent frame.

Congrats also to not buying the first truck you see. My '96 is over 283k now, but I wouldn't have paid $10.5k for it.../
