I will be posting a poll with this thread. My truck specs are given below in my sig line. My truck sees a lot of use on the open highway in snow packed/icy roads between Bend and Burns. I also live on a ranch and right now everything is a muddy soup. During the fall I spend some time in the forest and high desert setting up hunting camps. I do not pull a trailer and I am mostly loaded light to medium weight in the bed. These are my main uses for the truck. I have decided that I will buy tires either from Costco or Les Schwab. I need help deciding on which tire to purchase that best fits my uses.

BFG A/T KO's all the way, I wouldn't put that La Slop tires on any thing I own, maybe just to sell it! Who the heck makes a La Swab?

 

I run the BFG M/Ts in the 255/85 size. Great in the slop, but they suck in the snow. I am by no means overpowered, and the truck will go sideways without trying. And I do not believe I will get a lot of miles out of them on the road. I wanted them, so I got them. Never again. For my use, it is hard to beat a good A/T.

So who makes them? Cooper? they seem to make all the no name tires.

There isn't even a question about which to get, the BFG are even priced better!

 

The SXT tires are made by Dean.

 

I never heard of Dean tires either!

 

I've run both the BFG A/Ts and M/Ts. The A/Ts are bad for picking up and throwing rocks... My last two sets have been the M/Ts for that reason.

 

I said that the 255 would be my choice

better for snow, ice, and deeper stuff, easier on tire chains too..

I voted A/T. If you are considering A/T vs M/T I would say go with the A/T for the milage... The BFG M/Ts wear better than most, but the A/T will last even longer. Albiet at the expense of traction in the boonies. But it sounds like you don't really NEED the M/T.

 

I wish that the BFG All terrain came in a 255/85/r16.

By the way, Dean is a subsidiary of Cooper tires (According to Les Schwab)

 

FWIW -
Drive all over the roads in the Blues, Elkhorn, and Wallowa Mountains and, yes, through the Burns high desert country. Best all around tire I have used is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo - they are excellent for slick winter roads, snow drifts and provide decent traction in the mud. Even with my power modifications, it still takes a deliberate action on my part to break the rear end loose on snow packed roads. In my case, Les Schwab here in Enterprise, OR ordered them for me during one of their tire sales so I got the sales discount. Got about 42,000 miles on one set over chip sealed pavement and county gravel roads. Just another option.

I am currently running BFG MT's, Ive spent the last four days in the snow and they seem to do real well. MT's or AT's are the way to go IMO. As mentioned above the AT's will ware better and youll probably see more miles out of them.

Just my opinion here, While living in N. Idaho( had a lot of snow), I ran both Coopers & Duelers and I wasnt all that impressed. I didnt care for the way they handled and wore.
