For everyone with a cracked dash.
Just got off phone with Daimler Chrylser (1-800-992-1997). Told them about contacting them in july re my 97 and expressed I didn't expect a fee to look at the damage, which was too obvious anyhow. They had my information from previous case and after confering with someone they said it was not covered due to out of warranty and mileage (213K). I guesss I'm on my own. Its getting bad so I either replace the top cover or just get a cover or both. Nice that at least some get it fixed.
Same deal here with me. Called the 800 number, they said it was out of warranty (215k miles).
Anyhoo, now I'm lookin at genosgarage, and they have the hard plastic covers for $55, or new replacement ones for $130.... I just can't decide which one I want to go with. Yeah the plastic cover is cheaper, but I don't want to get it and it end up looking like a dull turd. What'd yall think?
Cause my dash (or lack thereof) is really annoying the **** out of me. I've lost full cans of copenhagen, all kinds of money, paperwork, and probably a beer or two, all to Crackvodius-Stuffbegoneus, the God of crack dashes. He's an unforgiving god...

Mine is cracked and trying to decide what to do if DC refuses to fix it. BTW, called the 1800- number and talked to a guy in India, you must be kidding. So, is the hard plastic molded cover or just a matt better. Can I fix and fill the crack with JB weld first? If and I mean IF, DC agrees to fix it for the 100$ deductable do they have to take apart the entire dash? Will it ever be the same again? If all the trck dashes are cracking I am supprised there isn't more about them here.
Our 99 has cracked from the windshield all the way to the top, towards the driver, right in front of the driver. I have consistantly used vinyl protector on mine through the years. Where can one find this so-called article? Does Dodge have a TSB on this matter? I priced a new dash at my Dodge dealer awhile back. They told me 300 bucks. Is that erroneous? I see someone posted 130 bucks from Genos. Is that for a stock replacement dash, or aftermarket? Thanks
I went last year with my 01' with about 85,000 miles------ called the 800 number, set up the appointment with the dealer, crossed all the "t's and dotted all the i's", best the regional rep would do is pay for half of the job ($400), told them no
I think I'm gonna hit em up to just buy my new dash and I'll put it in.

I've searched these cracked dash threads looking for some common elements - certain years, certain colors, sun effects, protectants used (such as Armorall) & I still can't really come to any conclusion. I read quite a few threads that mention the gray agate color, but then again it could be that Dodge just produced more agate dashes than any other, so the only thing left is a problem in the chemical composition of the plastic used and the way it's mounted - i.e. stresses caused by plastic parts that don't align properly & then bolted down tight. For what it's worth, my 95 with 273,000 mi has the gray agate dash with no cracks whatsoever (still looks fairly new) & has spent it's entire life in the sun with the windows rolled up! Has anyone ever done any polling here on this issue? (if there have been, my apologies - just point me to it). Just curious as to what the root cause really is.
My dealer is going to do the replacement for 400$. Just a little nervous about having the dash taken apart.i have had no problems with the HVAC and don't want any. I guess I could blame them for any HVAC failures in the future. I just know that at trade in time the crack or anything but a factory dash will cost some big bucks. I could just fix the crack and get a good dash matt and glue it down or get the hard cap and call it done. What do ya think?
The "Camel" colored dash on my '99 just started cracking near the passenger side defrost vent last week.
Started as a small crack, one week later it seems to be slowly "spider-webbing" all over the passenger side top of the dash.

I got a dash cover from Bob on ebay and I'm really happy with how it looks. It's kind of pricey but it's a exact fit and color matched. I mailed him a piece that had broken off my dash so he can have it match. He currently doesn't have a dash cover for a 98-02 model but you should definitly check out one of his auction listing's and see the difference between his dash tops and the competition (way better fit and match).
