drivetrain??

I am new to this forum- a fellow poster on another site suggested this would be a good place to find out things about my truck. Now, I know absolutely nothing about trucks. Period. I have driven a truck/horse trailer I know I have 6 wheels. I know to change the oil when says, filter, air- that sort of crudely basic stuff. I tow a 22 ft. horse trailer for 40 years. Am a good, careful driver that know my truck, as far as how it runs/acts. Would have the truck/trailer serviced, and am getting tired of screwed as soon as I call for an appointment. These things I will ask later. Right now, I have a basic question- how do I know if a truck has a drivetrain or not? I see you have 2 catagories for 2nd gen. Thanks.

First off, welcome to the site, I'm sure you will find lots of great information and knowledgable people on here and maybe learn some stuff as well.

If you look to the left of the page when you are logged on you will see that it says user cp, click on that then on the left side again it will say edit signature, click on that and put some info about you truck there. what year?, what transmission? how many miles? 4x4 or 2x4? and so on and so forth. That way we know what kinda rig you got if someday you get on and ask for info about your truck. The drive train part just means anything that has to do with the truck moving, such as engine, transmission, axles, transfer case, you get the picture. Non drive train is just everything else, interior, body, etc. It will depend on what year truck you have as to which forum you use. If it is a 1993 or earlier it is a 1st gen, 1994-1998.5 would be 2nd gen 12valve and 1998.5-2002 would be 2nd gen 24 valve, then you go past 2003 and its a 3rd gen. Hope this helps you

Just looked at your profile and saw you have a 2nd generation 98' that could be either a 12 or 24 valve dodge switched motors mid year. On the side of the door it will usually say cummins turbo diesel right under the ram 3500 emblem if it is a 12v, if its a 24v it will say cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel. If you fill out your signature it will just show that info right under your post like mine does so people know what you got at a quick glance. If you need any other information feel free to ask.
