Daytime running light Question
Daytime running light Question
My DRL's work but the high beam indicator doesn't ,I checked the high beam bulb it is good how can I verify that the DRL is the problem, I do not want to jumper the DRL to get the indicator, just trying to save myself dropping a 100 bucks at Dodge for DRL and finding that wasn't the problem.
I say that If you have your lights on and need the High Beams pull back on the switch. You will know when the high beams are on! Now if you are wanting them to be able to signal trucks or on coming traffic then you will need to see if the bulb in the cluster is out!
GW,
I have a photo in my gallery with my DRL jumper.. The wire that feeds the Hi beam indicator is the Red/Grey 20 ga wire. If you test that wire with a test light/volt meter you should see some voltage there. I think with your newer dash, the indicator may be LED instead of a regular bulb. However, the Voltmeter should show something at that wire output.
The wires may be in slightly different positions, but the colour should be the same..

Not sure on your Canadian truck, but most DRL's use Hi beams, with a lower voltage than normal lights and the hi-beam indicator don't light.
Does the hi bean indicator light with the normal light switch?

Lil dog.... the light is not a led thank goodness as those things are the devil they light up with so little voltage there are a pain to troubleshoot.... or at least that is my observation
Thanks fellas
STILL trying to figure this out... please help
I have the red gray wire with the high beams on or off at 12 volts with the drl plugged in, silly question but does something have to make a ground to eluminate the light? I assumed the red grey would only have power when the high beam switch is on...

I tried all of the above stuff with mine and never got it to work. I finally went out and bought a new DRL module and everything was fixed.
I was told they are the same for most Dodge/Chryslers of the same year so you could always check a wrecking yard for one.

ya I am tired of chasing wires I have to go take the my kids to see grandpa on Sunday and he has the same year cummins truck so the DRL is getting plugged in mine to see the outcome. If it doesn't work I'm getting match
Hey greenworks, if you need a new one take that one from the wreckers cause i just bought one a couple weeks ago from the dealer, they are $150
now!!!!!The worst part is it didn't fix the problem so i have a brand new one sitting on the shelf in the garage.Mine don't come on any more at all but my hi beam indicator still works so just said the heck with it.
I can email you the schematic from the factory manual if you like.

I have a local wrecker tha will sell one to me for 30 bucks, but like I mentioned I have another truck to try its off before I go to far paying. My DRL work the only problem I have is the high beam indicator doesn't work. I f I need one and the wreckers is gone maybe I'll buy yours ut the price i got from my dealker was $105?

It looks like the input for the high beam on the drl module is pin 1 a red/orange wire and the output for the high beam indicator lamp is pin 4 a red/grey wire. Aso apparently there is a high beam indicator lamp driver in the instrument cluster.
good luck

HELP! TTT
My DRL worked fine in another truck, and vice versa still no high beam light in mine with the other DRL module.
Ok heres the testing I have done.
Light is good
Tried new display assembly speedo, tach etc unit from another truck
tried different DRL module from a working truck
Still.... High beams work fine, DRL lights work fine NO high beam indicator
When testing a working truck I found the high beam indicator wire red-grey had 12.5 volts when the lights where OFF and .5 volts when on. on MY truck I had 12.5 volts either way is there something that makes the ground to get the light to come on as the only thing it can be is a ground issue or am I missing something.
Please fellas this is driving me and everyone driving near me NUTS!!

Hey Jason
PM or email me your email address, I have an 01 manual here and it has a indicator diagnosis check.

I think thats the problem we are hitting here is that after 99, the trucks went to a positive to ground lighting system. That being that (like import cars) the circuits are live with 12V and are grounded by the switch to make the circuit.
My guess is that the indicator lite may be grounded through the multi-function switch in the column. That may just need a blast of electronics cleaner to get it to work again. Or the head light switch may be a culprit as well. With the wiring diagrams from Jeff, one could figure it out pretty quickly..
