Dang ALARM!
Dang ALARM!
Hey guys, there's this stupid alarm on my truck that I can't figure out how to get rid of...it's so sensitive that the other day when the doors were locked I shut my console and the thing went off. I can't figure out how to disarm it permenently so I ws wondering if any of ya'll know how to bypass it or disconnect it permenently. The only thing that I can find that seems like it'd have anything to do with an alarm was the horns....There's a fairly good size horn against the firewall but it looks more like a horn for a PA or something and then there are 2 horns underneath the bumper that don't look stock but besides that stuff that's all that I know about it. Thanks Guys!
Oh and also there is a security relay in my fuse box but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. If it does will it hurt anything to just pull the relay?

I install remote starters in trucks and from my experience you need to find a light green with orange tracer in the drivers dooor harness. It requires a neg source thru a 1500 ohm resistor. Now if you want to kill it permanetly,, find the wire hook up the resistor and then ground it and it will be disarmed totally. But personally, if it was me, i would put the resistor on a toggle switch, so if you ever go someplace, you can flip the switch and have the alarm work!
Forgot this is only for a factory alarm,, an aftermarket is a different thing

The PA Like horn is not stock. Disconnect it and set it off. That may be the source for the alarm sound. Also, have you removed the panel under the steering column? That's usually where alarm boxes are zip tied up.
not in the newer ones,,, all work out of the body control box. As to why you need a negative with a 1500 ohm resistence. YOu think your 2001 is complicated,, look into a 2005 and up,,, most all stuff needs to see certain resistence thru grounds to turn on , including parklights,, its getting very rediculous , installing the remote starters are getting harder and harder every year, with all this new security crap
Sometimes you can find that light green with orange under the dash to,, just follow the wires where they come into the cab from the door , and look for it there

Ok, the air horn lookin things were just that air horns, but they aren't plugged up....I set the alarm off a couple of times with the hood opened and notice it wasn't coming through the other horn either which lead me to think it was coming through the stock which it was, so does this mean it's a stock unit or does it just happen to be wired through the stock horn? The only wiring under the steering column that isn't stock is my brake controller harness. I'd really like to figure this d@mn thing out, I can't even throw something in the bed with the doors locked without it going off. Thanks again guys!
Is it armed/disarmed using the factory keyless entry?
Is it a Mopar EVS II?
If it is. there is a shock sensor somewhere, usually under the dash. Just turn it down ( less sensitive) and you are good to go.
Every truck I have had has had the EVS II system. The shock sensor is big time sensitive if it's turned way up.

Yep, you have the Mopar EVS II system. It is configured in the auto arm mode.
I don't have my book handy but it can be changed to a regular arm/disarm.
I'll try and round up my manual but you should check with your dealer about getting the manual for it. There are a bunch of things you can do to configure it.
I just have mine set for noise basically. I have the shock sensor turned right down to nothing. It sounds like yours is just freaking out when you leave the truck.

You need to find the manual for the EVS II alarm system. Your dealer should have one or be able to find one for you.
It's just an alarm system that you can order over the counter at your dealer. Typical plug and play Mopar stuff.
The factory truck manual kind of skims over the alarm whereas the EVS manual will give you all kinds of info.
Glad it helped.......a little.
