Cracked console hinges!
I happened to notice the other day while attempting yet again to wash the paint off my 02' (20k miles) that the hinges on my console have suffered stress fractures. >
Along the bottom of each hinge there are two 1/4" cracks which only seem to be stressed as the console is at a 45 degree angle. In other words, popping the console open all the way relieves the pressure and to my belief has not caused the cracks. It seems that by design, the console lid exerts too my pressure midway though opening because as you reach a 90 degree angle the cracks close up. ??? Has anyone else seen this? Looks like a new console from Mopar is in order. ;D
BTW.....this post should finally make me a MEMBER......woo hoo!!!!!!!!

Re:Cracked console hinges!
I had the same thing happen on my 01.5. I had the console lower replaced under warranty two times and it just kept breaking the tabs. I gave up on having it replaced again because it would just break again and I didn't feel like losing any more use of my truck while it is in the shop. This is a major design flaw. The tabs are designed to hold the lid open but will not do so once they crack. The design on the Gen III is a major improvement.

That begs the question, can a Gen III middle seat and console be transplanted into a 2nd gen truck.
I really like the underseat storage, as well as the lid storage.
Any ideas what the cost might be?

You could transplant yourself into the seat of a Gen III as I did.
