Converting to old style voltage regulator.

So after what we thought was a fix to dads charging problems it's not the truck is throughing a code 42 open circuit or a internal short, And 46 high charging system voltage.

So we have come to the conclusion of installing an external regulator like whats on my 90. Anyone ever done it on here? So basically we need a new wire off a switched hot on the fuse box. to run to the regulator. Then from the regulator splice in where the factory wire off the ECM runs to the alternator. To make this work right?

Look in user Infidels photo gallery, he has the classic illustration on how to do it.
