Check out the Codes listed in the FAQ section:

P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor 1 Circuit, or No Vehicle Speed Reference Signal 1

I can only guess the obvious on this one. I'll have to pass a better answer on to the more knowledgeable.

Sorry.

Usually the sensor dying causes the code.
If your speedometer is working, and no ABS light flashing then the sensor must be good.

Sometimes spinning the tires will throw the code, maybe a little water in the sensor?

The only time I've seen that code on my truck is when I had a bad installation of my truespeed.
You splice the unit into the wire from the sensor to the ABS module, and the connection came apart.
Reconnected, with solder this time , and haven't seen the code since.

I had the same code not long ago - I suspect it was from spinning my tires on ice or from jamming hard on the brakes. It went away after I disconnected the batteries (allow at least an hour with batteries disconnected).

The sensor is on the top of the rear diff.....you may need to pull it, clean it with contact or brake cleaner and reinstall it if the battery trick doesnt work for ya.
