Cleaning inside headlight

What's the best way to clean all the funk out of the inside of the headlight assembly after a bulb has exploded. Can I just wash it out with water and not harm the reflective coating?

It is pretty much water proof, but not scrub proof. Just go slow, or replace it if it comes off. IMHO

I've rinsed it out pretty good with just warm water and there's still a film on the inside of the lens and the reflective surface. I'll try wiping the inside with cotton and hope that I don't ruin it. Any other solutions out there would be appreciated. I'm sure lots of us have had this problem.

Thanks for the suggestion but it's all back together now. The water alone didn't do much but I was able to wipe the insides with cotton using a long, curved forceps and it came out pretty good. Got sport headlights and conversion wiring harness on order so I won't need these stock units much longer.
