Cleaner Carpets...

Someone on here awhile back posted a messages saying that he power washed his carpets and removed a bunch of odors ans dirt.

Well...

I got bold and ripped Mom's truck apart.. Took out the seats and the rear folding seat and anything that bolted to the floor. I found the the padding was a bit damp... Might be that 3rd light on the top of the cab leaking... I better seal that up...

Well after about 30 minutes everything was out of the truck including ther carpet. It really east to do.

Now I laided the carpet out over our picnic table out back and turn on the garden hose with a sprayer. (We have some serious water pressure 180 PSI at the tap!) You could use a power washer (1500 PSI)

The carpet start to turn brown with the dirt running out. I just kept at it... Working over the entire carpet.

I left it out on the table over night to dry...

Next morning a bit damp but it looks great!!! The bright grey color is back!

By 12 Noon It was mostly dry in the sun. It went together quite quickly!

For any of you guy that really work with your truck and get the floor dirty and spill stuff this is the way to clean up that mess! I've tried using rug shampooers but they just don't work...

Next warm day with nothing else to do, I'll be doing it again. Wife now refuses to go on a long trip in the truck. Doesn't want to drive it either.

Wait a minute......

Maybe I got a good thing going here,,,HHHHMMM

180 psi!!!! I think your guage is faulty. The relief valve on your water heater is only set for 125 psi.

Irragation only!... Not house! ... Sorry about that ... It comes from a dam 1/2 mile up the mountain and has a total fall of about 400 feet in a 1 inch black poly line. The extra pressure we use to power our Hydro Power plant...

My yard is 4.5 acres... I can water 1/3 of the yard with one sprinkler with the water pressure we have here!

Get for washing trucks after muddin'

Had me wondering on the 180 psi too, I have 62 and I thought I was doing something here!
I took the conventional approach and used the carpet steamer we use in the house, it has a hand "wand" used for steps and uphosltery>sp? It works great, notihng special, we got it form Sears, 200 bucks or so. Did a GREAT JOB, I wa very happy with the results. I'm thinking that your's must have been a bit more dirty than mine. I'm a jerk about dirt and muddy shoes in my truck, so It gets atleast vaccumed every two months or so.

I'm gonna steam clean my carpets and seats one of these days. I do it for a living so I have access to the really big units with all of the fun chemicals that will take out pretty much any stain and make it smell all nice and purdy. I think I'm gonna do the head liner as well.

Hey BigBlue you might have all the nice machinery and chemicals but some of us REDNECKS got to get there rides cleaned up the easy way...

I've got one of those cheap Bissell Rug shampooer's but it not the greatest in the world. It works on light dirt and mud...

The nice part is I found the nasty smell in Mom's truck... Rotten food behind the back seat in behind the seat belts...Old French fries, potatoe chips etc... This is something to look for...

Mopar, that's why my mom takes her dogs with her in the truck. They either find the food and get rid of it or chew up the headrest trying to get to it.

Maybe it's a good thing we never put the dog in the cab of the truck...Always in the bed...

I guess it sucks to see your Mom's Dodge ripped apart by the family dog(s)...

Still funny as hell...

She drives an 03 Dmax. They don't tear anything up in my truck when they ride in it. I guess they like the Dodge better also.

See even the dogs know which right is better! Man's best friend!

If the dogs could talk they would be telling you to BOMB it more!

Once or twice a year the seats come out of the pickup and Mommy van for a complete clean. We leave the carpeting installed due to a prior bad experience.

Many years ago, I pulled the entire carpeting out of a Subaru station wagon. I hosed it down, shampooed it clean, and let it sun dry. The dang thing shrunk out of shape and I had a hard time getting it back in the proper location.

A big tip is to double rinse after the soap. Without rinsing, soap stays in the fibers and actually collects dirt faster.

Fueling Around,

The carpet that is in the newer Dodge trucks has a rubber backing. I really don't think you will have a problem with shrinking... Or at least I didn't...

Well mine is definately getting cleaned out ASAP. Last night when I climbed in the truck I noticed an awful smell. At first I thought it was one of my buddies leaving a special "present" for me so I just blew it off and rolled the windows down. Got back in it to go home and the smell was still there. Searched the truck and low and be hold there was half of a crushed bird on my floor. Apparently it got caught on the bottom of my shoe earlier in the day (don't know how I didn't feel it) and got deposited on the floor. I know it was from my shoe because I smelled the underside and it smelled just like the bird. Unfortunately, I couldn't let the truck air out over night cause it was drizzling and when I got in it this morning the stench nearly blew my socks off.

I'm thinking about just riping out the carpet and getting the sray in bedliner done to the interior. Anyone tried this? Worth the effort, or won't it look right? Any wiring under there? My carpet just collects too many spills from the passanger side. 4 year olds and mommys who give them goodies in the truck, and so on. Pressure washing works pretty well. I like it clean all the time though, not just once a year.
