changing mirrors help
my buddy has an 02 2500 with the flip up tow mirrors i was just wondering if anyone has installed them on a 12v. i hate the mirrors i have on my 97 cause i cant see crap. could i install the same mirrors he has? would they bolt up the same way the oem mirrors do? and will they plug into the same harness or not for the power?
I mounted 3rd gen mirrors on my 98 12valve. I now the factory mirror mounts changed between the 97 and 98, but they should fit...Ive seen other members on here with them on trucks back to 94. They should fit, but like WestTN said get the support bracket...er...plate or whatever, so they dont vibrate around so bad. Around $15 from the Dodge dealer.
"now the power deal im not sure of bud. I got manual mirrors cause they were cheaper (regret that!) wish i could help ya on that one..."

Same here... mine are manual. So I dont know if they will plug in or not. its only 4 wires so if the plug doesnt work, you could just wire them up with out it. I broke my passenger side the other day and fixed it with some epoxy... Ill use that as an excuse to buy the power/heated mirrors from Kool Vue.

The harness for power will be different. I replaced some power mirrors on my 96 with some off a 2001 or 2002. Not the power tows but the power "mickey mouse" ear black ones. The 98 up have provision for heated mirrors so they have a 5 or 6 (depending on the year, mine had 6 but on another forum I saw a wiring write up for five). I believe it was on another forum that had the write up on the color of wires and what went to what. I used those color codes and instead of cutting off the old plugs I used inline taps to wire the truck harness to the mirror harness. Worked fine. I wanted to sell the old mirrors intact or I would have cut the plugs off and soldered on to the mirror harness.
I found this page when I installed my mirrors a couple of weeks ago. Easy install takes a couple of hours. This link has everything that you will need to know, part #'s, wiring, ect.
Thanks to the person who compiled this info. It was very helpful.

Getrdun. Youre right the 3rd gen will not fit. However if you buy the 3rd gen style mirror that was built specifically for the 2nd gens, then those will work. Dont waste your money on mirrors off a 3rd gen. Get these... http://www.kool-vue.com/lookup_detai...0&id=1999&pg=2
These are made for our 2nd gen trucks.
