a/c not working

My a/c is blowing hot. I assume it is low on freon, but I can hear the compressor engaging. Was going to dump in a can before I left on a trip, but the twins piping has to be removed to get to low pressure side. Going to hook up some gauges tomorrow to see what they are reading. What is the proper pressure readings. I haven't done any a/c work since r12 days. Hopefully its like riding a bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If my memory is right, somewhere around 30-40 psi on the low side and I think 200-300 on the high side, but I never look at the high side as much. I'm no HVAC guy though..... but I'm pretty sure those pressure numbers are close.

The set up I bought from the local parts house, came with an adjustable gauge. You set the gauge, for the outside temperature, and it gives you a window of where the low pressure should be. It also came with a dyed can of 134.

Hooked up my guages and of couse i was low on freon. Added freon to 32 on low side, 225 on high side at idle. Thermometer inserted in vent shows 49 degrees. Is this about right. Was a little hesitant to run up pressure any more.

Finally drove the truck today. Thermometer in vent reads 40 degrees. I'd day that's good.
