brake lights don't turn off

I was driving around last weekend and a guy pulls up at a stoplight and tells me that I don't have any brake lights. Sure enough, I have a blown fuse and when I replaced it, the brake lights won't turn off. Any ideas on "normal" things that cause this ?

A friend of mine that had an old Chevy tuck had so much slack in his brake pedal that it developed a constant sag and the brake light switch was always engaged.

Perhaps thats it? Just a thought.

My 05 did this. I thought it was the brake switch, so i replaced it and they worked fine. Then a couple weeks later it happened again, so i bought another switch, except this time it didnt fix it. It ended up bein that my brake controler was wiggin out and had to get a new one. If you have a controler, pull the fuse to it and see if they go off, thats how i figured out it was bad.

One of the guys at work said his dodge gasser did the same thing and he went over to Checker and got a stop light switch for about twelve bucks. Sure enough, thats what was wrong with my truck. Just don't put the plug back in untill you have the switch back in place unless your hands are A LOT smaller than mine. And don't flip the little lever thing on the end untill done with the install. It sets the brake travel or something so the lights come on at the right time. The dealer wanted 90 bucks to tell me it was a $12 part. Well probably forty at the dealer. Thanks all for your help and ideas !
