Brake Light Fuse Keeps Blowing

I was backing out of my driveway a couple of days ago and the ABS and Brake lights came on. I was in a huge rush so I decided to just drive it gingerly feeling for any change in brake performance. They were working fine. I checked out the truck later and found that the brake light fuse was blown. I replaced it and started the truck in park...no more lights. The next time I left the house, the same lights came on as soon as I hit the brake along with a corresponding pop sound of the fuse. Has anyone heard of this happening? I am about to take it to an auto electric place, but if it is an easy fix, I would rather do it myself. What could be causing the fuse to pop as soon as I hit the brake? Any help would be greatly appreciated as you can see the roller coaster of emotions I am experiencing. ......

Im not sure what that is, but I get it once in a while too. maybe 1 time a month it blows a fuse the first time I step on the brakes after it sits over night. I think it calls for a 15a fuse and i have a 20a in there now. See what other guys say here.

Any chances it could be wiring from your trailer brakes?

I haven't towed in a while, but we have had a lot of rain lately. A connection could have gotten wet back there somewhere. I will check the wires again.

Is it possible the stoplight switch could cause this? Just thinking of possibilities to address tomorrow before I hand it over to a shop Monday.

I was also thinking about cowboy's post. Is this safe to try a higher amp fuse for a day, or could this damage something? Thanks for the ideas so far.

Probably not safe, but I did the same. It's a BAD band-aid, though. My new trailer wiring (which I've yet had the chance to get checked out for the third time), screws with my reverse fuse. Everytime I hook up to a 7 pin and use reverse the lights dim BAD and then it pops. Bigger fuse solved the popping, but still dim reverse lights when hooked up.

Larger fuses = a possibility of burned wiring. Beware. Check all the bulbs....I've seen one filament on a dual filament bulb drop down and touch the other one resulting in a blown fuse. Could be in the wiring going to the trailer brake controller as well. Hard to pinpoint exactly without knowing more info. Look at the 7 way wiring for any signs of damage, under the dash for the trailer brake controller wiring, and also look inside the 7 way for any corosion. Seen that too.

Check that the truck's trailer jack isn't full of wet dirt.

I went a bit bigger of fuse, but not huge. A 40a or soemthing would be a bad idea.

All fixed...somehow the wire as it came out of the firewall and met the frame got crushed against the frame by a brake line clamp. Funny thing is my brakes haven't been worked on in a year. Glad I took it somewhere, would have never found that one. The kicker is he went ahead and put a 20 amp fuse in there for good measure. Guess a little bigger is not dangerous, but a lot bigger is. Cowboy is vindicated Thanks for all your help guys!

I keep blowing the brk light fuse and it blows the switch on the pedal at the same time. It’s shorting out the switch about every other day. But sometimes multiple a day. I’ve checked the wiring front to back and top to bottom. Swapped the stock taillights and 3rd brk light back into it and same thing. I’ve replaced the multi function switch (turn signal & wipers) and didn’t have an issue for about a month then right back to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have also checked and rewired new trailer plugs into it recently
