brake light and ABS light
brake light and ABS light
Has anyone ever had a problem with the brake and abs light coming on once you first hit around 40 mph after its just been started? Any clues to why it does? It was fine all winter but since it got warm out again it started doin it again. Once they come on the cruise doesnt work either so its starting to **** me off.
My truck started doing the same thing about 1.5 months ago. I pulled connections to rear axle speed sensor, cleaned, di-electric greased, same with abs plugs at controller and problem dissappeared for a few days. Now it does same intermittently at different speeds, hot or overnight cold. It also affects the operation of the brakes in that the abs doesn't work. If I am applying brakes when it occurs I can feel the brake pedal kind of bump when the light comes on. Mine doesn't seem to affect the operation of the cruise control though.
Is there any way to bench test the speed sensor to see if it has a short in it, or could differential fluid level being slightly low cause it to occur???
Input is greatly appreciated b4 I start throwing money at replacement parts.

About the only test for it is to check the ohms. I believe a new one will measure 1250-1300 ohms, however scuzman00, you have described a problematic rear sensor to a T! For the low cost of the part it would be well worth the 10 minutes to install it.

J-Body, Thanks for the input. I will hit my local DC parts department in the next couple of days and get a replacement. I guess since coming to this site, I have become more frugal with my money because of all of the expertise in here. I prefer to spend my money toward BOMBS moreso than canned parts.... But then again those annoying warning lights do need to be rectumfiled b4 the bulbs burn out and warrant a trip back to radio shaft to get replacements.
Again, A BIG THANKS!!!!!
