BOMBing the center console - thoughts?

OK - I'm thinking of modifying the center console.
The truck is a QC w/ a five speed so we NEVER use the middle seat in the front.

I'm thinking of taking out the bottom cushion and making a storage box to go where the seat currently is.
I want to keep the flip-down console w/ storage and the flat work surface.

Currently the foam & vinyl is in bad shape on the lid, I plan on having the foam & vinyl replaced.
Anyone have any pictures of what the underside of the flip-up console looks like.
I figure if I'm getting rid of the bottom seat cushion that I might want to remove the cushion under the console (seat back) and replace the cushioned area w/ some sort of built sides/panels to make it all look matched.

Anyone have a picture of what the guts of the console look like below the cushion or have any thoughts to share?

Would a 3rd gen center seat/console drop right in?

They have storage under the seat, maybe not all, but the later ones or maybe it was an option.

Phox,

I did not realize some of the 3'rd G's had storage under the seat.

Even if it would be a drop-in, I don't think I'd go that route as those seat tend to go for a pretty good penny on eBay and I'm sure elsewhere.

I'm also think of using galvanized pipe w/ some sort of steel support tied into the seat frame and new storage for a laptop mount.
I'm thinking it would be nice to have an area where the seat is now for putting in hanging file folders if it's big enough.
I plan on having a laptop mount made from a s/s fabricator I do business w/ for work and mount it on the galvanized pipe in conjunction of using a union connection on the pipe to work as a quick disconnect.

i was halfway toying with the idea of fitting a spot for a laptop in the center console to store all my music and run GPS. i still may do it one day. i have an old laptop (i say old, 6 years) that needs a new part to make the screen work.

Hmm sounds like an interesting idea. If you decide to do it can you post pics?

i sure will. i think im gonna try to build my own "insert" so i dont hack up my original. plus, with the layout of the stocker, id have a bunch of slots and holes in odd places. ill position my laptop "well" and make some pockets around it so ill still have some small functional storage.

right now im working on how to hook up my computer to my new HU so maybe i can control the music soley from my headunit.
