Yesterday, I test drove a 2001 2500 4x4 sport. i noticed that when I started it up the Brake light on the dash was on, so i reached down and pulled the release. then the light blinked for about 5 seconds or so, and went off. Is this normal? I haven't noticed it on others i drove. Is their something wrong with the braking system? ( 4 wheel disc) thanks.

 

Ok, Does anybody here notice there dash brake light blinking?

I have not noticed my brake light blinking on my 01.5 sport. when I start the truck or turn the ignition on the brake light is on with the other indicators,however it does not blink. I don't know what the light means if it blinks maybe someone can chime in that has had a 01.5 sport longer than I.

 

Mine blinks when the brake is on. As soon as I release it, it stops blinking... 8)

Thanks, guys. I didn't link the blinking to having my foot on the brake, sounds like it might be a normal thing, I just wonder why it would blink, I was thinking it might be a fault code of some sort. Anybody else care to chime in?

 

Clarification.

If I have my emergency brake on when I start the truck, the light is just on.

As soon as I put it into gear it starts blinking.

Attention grabber "HEY, THE BRAKE IS ON".

It might be as soon as I apply the regular brake in preperation to put it into gear, will have to remember to check.

My light does the same thing as Phox's. I think DC threw that in there to keep people from driving with the parking brake on. I think its a good idea, its one of the first things I noticed after I got my truck.

 

Cool, thanks guys. I may just pick this thing up. 2001.5 2500 sport 4x4, 44,000 miles. $24,500. I sure do hate the big 'ol bumper and winch on it though (Reunel w/ 15,000 winch), guess i could sell it pay for a replacement sport bumper. Thanks

 

Every so often, mine will blink and stay on after releasing the E-brake. I have to reach down and pull up on the E-brake and it will stop. The E-brake only moves up about 1/4 inch when I pull on it and then the light stays off.

Just wait till you hit something, then you'll be really glad you have that bumper.

If you do decide to sell the bumper and/or winch, I'm sure you'll have plenty of takers here.

Do you have a pic of the truck?
Not too many of 'em with those bumpers, might have been owned by someone here or an aquaintence.
