Blinker Issues

The other day I noticed that the little blinker indicator on the gauge panel was blinking really fast. I got out and looked and my driver side rear blinker is out. The brake lights and parking lights still work. I'm driving down the road, and all of a sudden, it decides to work again. It does this work, not work thing for about two days and now it's just dead. Could there be a short somewhere? I haven't messed with the wiring yet to convert to the amber bulbs. I'm thinking now would be a good time to do that though. Any ideas or suggestions as to what the problem may be.

Re:Blinker Issues

I'd open it up and check for clean contacts on the bulb socket. If they look good, then I would just go ahead and change the bulb, the filament is probably
just broken and making intermittent contact.

Re:Blinker Issues

My flasher went fast, then slow, then not at all, then fast again, then slow, etc. before I changed it out. Thought I was having all kinds of wiring/bulb problems and all it was was the flasher. Might want to swap yours out to see if that helps.

Re:Blinker Issues

Figured it out yest. The bulb is messed up. If I push it all the way in, it doesn't work. If I pull it out just a tad, it works. I replaced it with the other bulb to see if it was just the bulb and it is. So all I need to do now is get another bulb. Thanks for the help yall.

Re:Blinker Issues

While you are at it, make sure to change your blinker fluid.

Re:Blinker Issues

I did that first thinking that maybe I was low. Put in Amsoil synthetic.

Re:Blinker Issues

BB be careful with that Amsoil blinker fluid. I think your truck is equipped with the limited slip blinker oscillator, so you will have repunsatory shatter on the dieversification analog gutter device

AlpineRAM

Re:Blinker Issues

When you change the bulb make sure you check it the operation again. Could be the taillight assembly itself. I have had one under warranty replaced.

Re:Blinker Issues

I checked it. I switched the bulb from the good side to the bad side and the bad side then worked fine and the good side then didn't work so I know it's the bulb. It's working fine now. I haven't replaced the bulb.

Dumb question...how do you get the taillight assembly off? I dropped the tailgate, pulled 2 screws, but it seemed like there was more holding it inside. I figured I'd ask here before I start trying to unsnap something I'm not supposed to.
BTW, my blinker is flashing real quick, hoping the bulb change fixes it.

Just had an interesting problem, while installing my alarm my buddy came across so old cell wiring in the dash which he carefully removed, then completing his installation. All of a sudden I realize I have no blinkers with my wife following behind me on one of the busiest highways during rush hour in all of Canada (her alone in her vehicle for the first time to say the least). I wisely exit at next intersection with her deligently following on my tail. After a brief but heated conversation she agrees to follow me home in the slow lane. When we arrived home she had achieved a comfort level for a her first comment was how slow the drive was, yes after 8 years I finally have my DD la vie est belle.
The cause of all this was my emergency blinkers, when I applied them they caused a short in the fuse box (didn't do it when I bought the truck of course), inside the fuse box there is a blue relay swith for the blinkers, after popping it out and screwing around to get the cover off, I noticed some scorch marks. My buddy blew out the relay and applied this special spray (some kind of high tech stuff beyond my range of expertise in the electronic world).
Put the relay back into fuse box and "voila" problem gone, emergencies and all. Tomorrow is a well earned day off, give me time to get a new or gently used one depending on the price.
Was quite relieved as was my buddy, he felt pretty at first thinking he had inadvertantly caused it. I told him from the start I knew it was something stupid (for lack of better words) for he his way to careful of making that kind of snafu.
Anyone know price of the relay box?

OK, apparently it wasnt a dumb question; about 20 people viewed with no response.
I got home and checked the FSM. It simply said disconnect the battery (yeah, right), remove the screws, and unsnap the taillamp housing. I just wanted to double-check, because I've 'unsnapped' things before, only to find that I was supposed to rotate it out or something and it gets broken.

When I undid mine I used a 25 torx, pulled the screws and wiggled the light housing lose. There is a good seal going on so be patient and gentle, CTD just love the TLC.

Sounds like you really need to flush your blinker system.
here's a link for some quality blinker fluid.
