Re:BHAF

how does that BHAF hook up. I could not tell if you had to buy something else or if it fit right on.
I was also wandering what this filter is made for? does it go on a big rig or on tractors?

What I did was go to Lowe's and buy a PVC 'DWS to drain' 3"x4" reducer. The 3" side fits into the BHAF's neck and the 4" side fits into the inlet hose. Very tight fit, but it works great. Also gives me a surface to mount a filter minder.

I believe this filter is for big rigs, but don't know which ones. There is also a marine version for boats with wire mesh on the inside of the media, but it is about 125.00 MORE than the regular BHAF like the one in the pic.

Re:BHAF

BHAF is short for "Big Honkin Air Filter" wich is a filter like the first gens have but somewhat bigger. Made by Fleetguard and has cross reference numbers with WIX and NAPA. ;D

Re:BHAF

Thanks Okie

After checking around for one of these BHAF's, one counter man ask me if this filter had fine enough filtration needed for my cummins. I had to stand there and look stupid, because I had not even thought of that. [NO hot air from the south, please]

So, jump in here and tell me, has someone verified that these filters are good enough?

Dan

Re:BHAF

Just got off the phone with Fleetguard, who make the stock panel filter and the BHAF. This is what they said:

BHAF= AH19037
98% efficient initial
99.9% efficient final
dust capacity- 825 gr
CFM- 687
Microns- not rated in microns

Stock= AF25541
97.5% initial
99.5% final
dust capacity- 400 gr
CFM- limited by the housing
Microns- not rated in microns

Re:BHAF

Thanks Mike

I noticed that AFE says the stock filter flows 377 CFM and theirs flows 820 CFM.

Since the Fleedguard flows 687 CFM, I wonder if the additional flow of the AFE would be noticed in power or MPG.

Your opinion please.

Dan

Re:BHAF

Dan- Fleetguard (who make to stock filter) don't have a flow rating for the stock filter. They say that it is all dependant on the housing that the filter is in.
If the AFE will feel or make more power than the BHAF, I don't know. But the Stock to BHAF does make more power.
What do they say the efficiency is? (initial and final) And do they measure it with the dust test? (1 micron to 100 micron particles)

I guess the point it comes down to is if you want to use an oil-gauze filter that costs 200.00 that you have to clean, or a paper filter that costs 35-50.00 and is throw-away.

Mike
