Battery sensor? temp?

Hi all,

I have removed both batterys and the decks they sit on from the fenders, The drivers side battery deck has a sensor on the bottom of it,

anyone know what this is for??

It is mainly used to determine how much charging the alternator needs to supply to the batteries.
Very cold, more charging, nice and warm, less charging.

It might be used for a temperature reading for something else, but I'm not sure.
