Battery question?

My 95 came with dual batteries, however I only use 1 here in Kali. It has a 675cca which is kinda small it seems, specially when its cold in the am it cranks to slow IMO. what are any of you running for a single? what kinda of cca`s do you have. I found a 875cca/1000 ca at Autozone that probably fit. Like to get the biggest cranker I can.

The first genners used only 1 battery, I remember that much.

The caution I was given on the 1000 CCA small automotive batteries is that under severe service or Diesel, the batteries are not built heavy enough to withstand the vibration of the engine. The plates are sooo close together in those smaller high CCA batteries that it doesn't take much to make them touch, which effectively shorts out some sections of the batteries and reduces the CCA.

In the first gens I had, I always bought Heavy duty batteries at the local Cummins or Frieghtliner dealer. The 1125 CCA batteries were usually around $120 but would last for years. The problem I see is that they won't fit in the current battery locations on the 2nd gen trucks. You may need to make modifications to your battery location to make it fit.

I was in costco the other day looking at batteries, they have a 900cca/1000ca battery that there books say will fit in a 2002 dodge cummins. I believe the price was about $49.

I have only heard good things about Ultima batteries, even though they do not quite meet the spec for our trucks. You might look into one of those.

Cool

The 1st gens take a group 31... I think. I got mine from Tractor Supply, it's 1100 amps. It'll be 5 years old in March.

You really should have 2 batts in there, even in sunny Calif. The slow cranking is low volts and high amps that will overheat the starter and burn it up. They are not cheap. You should go with 2- 1000 cca batts.
