Batteries going dead

A guy down the road has a 1997, he changed altenator, starter, and 2 new batteries, he still has to boast it in morning. Dealer now tells him that his cam postion sensor is gone and wants 600.00 to change it labour included. Charging normal when running. Does this sound possible to be the problem?

That doesn't sound right. 1997 should be a 12v no cam position sensor,24v wasn't until mid 98. I would check for an electrical drain. On my truck the courtesy light around the ignition key switch was stuck on and killing my batteries. There is a timer looks like a flasher bulb under the dash that shuts it off but it got stuck on I unplugged it. Check for a power drain with the key off,by disconnecting the ground cables from the batteries(leave + terminals connected) and put a test light from the neg. terminal to engine or chassis ground if all is good no light if there is a drain the light will be on(any open circuit will turn the light on horn, headlight switch etc.), then start pulling fuses to see what circuit the drain is coming from then fix it or eliminate it. Good luck

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
When doing above mentioned diagnois, it will be necessary to attach test light to cable and bottom of post so as to not lose connection when pull cable off. Reason. when disconnecting and reconnecting you power up the computers. They were alseep and at minimum draw before disconnect.

yes, its definatley a large parasitic draw. I cant imagine what would be pulling that much juice in a 12v. Best think is to hook up with a voltmeter and start pulling fuses.
