BAD front end shimmy
#16
When I found out the ball joint on my trackbar had the wrong taper on it I ordered the trackbar conversion, track bar and steering stabilizer kit from these guys www.solidsteel.biz. They were relatively easy to install even for a DIYer and I am much more confident in the handling of my truck.

Picked up my DSS, TBK and DAT from Solid Steel just this afternoon. Not installed yet. Looks like nice quality stuff sitting on the floor. Black powdercoat. Looks good. Going to install before the end of the week.

alrighty then. I cant find any play in any part except maybe a tad in the track bar. So to keep from going crazy looking for it I think I'll just change every wearable part in the front end.
Does anyone know all the part numbers for the parts inthe front end? tie rod end,(the bar that has the right side tie rod end on it), link with joint that goes into the pitman arm, etc..
thanks

My truck had that problem new, a new stabilizer fixed it . I didn't belive the dealership at first, but it never did it again after the new stabilizer was installed(40K ago).

Ok, so I installed the Lukes link in an effort to fix the death wobble. NO LUCK. I have checked every part up there. I guess I will change out every part up front as I had planned. surely the culprit will be found during the repairs

I highly recommend changing the control arm bushings. Takes a little time with a press, but the results are fantastic. Mine had 200K on them and did not appear to be bad. Had the wobble every once and a while. I had already changed everything, and I mean everything else.
Great steering now, and no wobble.

I plan on doing those too. every part that wears will be replaced. I'm sure that the wobble cant be good for the rest of the truck. should be fun replacing all the parts

well now. Got all parts replaced and a fresh alignment. It rides like a new truck!! Wow. After looking at the parts I pulled out I think the problem was caused by a bad steering stabilizer and front shocks. the shocks would nt rebound.
Is there any way to tell if the steering box has play in it? The truck tracks straight but when the wheel is turned it seems to have a delay in response.
I highly recommend a complete front end job for those high mileage trucks if you have the time. Mine sure feels great

No on adjusting the steering box. didnt know it was possible. How to?
I replaced ball joints, tie rods and ends, shocks, steering stabilzer, control arm bushings.
I've put about 50 miles on her now and it still feels good. If I get some info on the steering box adjust I think it will be fine.
On another note, my rear springs have lost some of their spring. Is there a quick fix to add some stiffness? I ask because when I jump on the bumper the helper springs hit the stop on top. I dont think they should with my weight.
