axle runaway

We threw a rear axle today. The little clip broke up and the axle nut spun off. Luckily I was only going 20 mph. The axle came out about 2 feet. Does anybody know how far you can bend these before they're trash. Whats the runout. Thnx Steve

If it's bent I wouldn't run it at all. That would probably pretty tough on the gears/carrier. I dunno...

Exactly. Bent at all = no good. You will have minor vibrations or even major ones and you will see bad tire wear.

I don't think you would see bad tire wear with a full floating rear. It would however be real hard on all the bearings/parts in the hub/spindle area and the carrier/side gear area. If you could even get the bent axle to go back in.

By all means, replace the axel to prevent serious ear damage caused by the whining noise coming from the passenger seat when your wife/girlfriend has to endure the shaking caused by the bent axel!
