Anyone want to explain the Door locks?
Anyone want to explain the Door locks?
Hey all. In adding some wiring I got inside the dash and found that the Previous owner or someone before an alarm system in my truck and keyless entry...but there wasn't any brand name on the box and it had been unhooked and I wasn't given any key fobs...So I began removing and splicing everything back to stock...except I stopped when I got to the door locks.
There are 4 wires coming from the drivers door kick panel. When one is unhooked both doors quit working. (2 blue and 2 black) (May be alarm colors or stock??) they are hooked into 2 relays and there are jumpers back and forth between them. The keyless entry/alarm has one wire to each relay.
When the keyless entry is unplugged from the relays they are still working as they did before.
Ever since I got the truck the door locks have been sluggish in that I have to hit it in the same direction a few times to get them to respond so now that I see this nest of wires and loose connections I wonder if I hooked it up right they would better?
Well any help would be appreciated! Thanks
JT

Oh man, I had this all figured out about a year and a half ago when I installed the keyless entry system. Now I forgot. Just take an ohm meter and check for resistance between the switch terminals while pushing the switch up and down. If I remember correctly, the diagonal terminals short (top left to bottom right) when you push up on the switch and the bottom left and top right short when you push down on the switch.
