Anyone ever run HUMMVEE Tires?

Anyone run these tires? They're dirt cheap, and while they are 36" tall, they should fit on my truck alright with a leveling kit...35's fit fine right now. They are a bias ply range C tire, but if they run them on heavy EDIT Hummers they should do fine on these trucks right? Just looking for a set to replace the fading BFG's since whoever borrowed my truck last week burned the rear tires off of it.

They come in the Wrangler R/T II, which I think is the older design, and the newer looking Wrangler M/T OZ which are a little pricier and bigger at 37's, but look like a better tread pattern. Anyone ever run them on anything?

Yeah, at one time I ran the Goodyear (old style) military take offs on my '72 K-5 (I was running 1 ton equip.). Any ways, I loved them. Great traction in the mud. OK on rocks and OK in sand. Very Strong side walls. The rubber compound was very hard. So sever wear really wasn't an issue. But when they did get low, I replaced them with Super Swappers.

Thanks for the heads up, how were they noise wise? Did they hum real bad on the highway? Did they give your steering a loose feel? I ran TSL SX'S on my CJ and hated how they rode, but loved how they pulled in the muck, those tires were so bad on the street they'd put ya in a ditch, but with that tread they'd pull you right threw the ditch and onto the other side, so I didn't much worry about them.

Well, SX's have a very stiff side wall compared to radial TSL's and/or bais TSL's. In fact the SX's have a steel belted side wall, I believe.

Yes the Goodyear Military tires hummed something good. They seemed to follow "lines" in the road, so they seemed to wonder abit. Not too bad, but they did.

But they did perform excellent in mud. The lugs cleanned well, so they woukl just keep clawing through the mud. But I mostly go to the desert, so I'd prefer the softer rubber compound of TSL radials for the dry traction in the sand and on rocks.

I used to get them from some "mom and pop" tire place down by the boarder, but I think I've seen them on www.NTWonline.com I think........

OH, something else to keep in mind, the old style (like what I had) only came for 16.5" wheels. The 16.5" wheels have a terrible bead design. If you offroad and like to lower the airpressor, beware. Anything lower than 10 lbs and you run the risk of popping a bead.................

Bias Ply, be very sure that if you rotate them, you ONLY rotate them front to back. NO cross rotation with bias ply tires. I worked for a tire warehouse and the majority of bias ply seperation was due to reversing the rotation on the tires. If you're only running the tires off road under 45 mph, you might not get any tread seperation issues but if you run highway speeds, they could seperate if the rotation is reversed.

See, this is why I asked, They'll be going on my Daily Driver...the 95. I don't tow with it, and rarely haul anything over 1500lbs, mulch or dirt can get heavy but that season is over. I do take the truck off road occasionally, but the reason I'm looking at these tires is because they are less than a third the price of TrXus M/T's or BFG M/T's... I already have the crappy 16.5's on my rig, came with the truck, and I really don't want to have to buy new wheels. I don't air them down much if any, a couple time I've run them at 15-20lbs, but that was on a rocky path and I couldn't stand rattlin my teeth out.

How do they do in snow? And do you think for less than $400 for the set they are worth it to put them on my daily driver, or should I really not try it?

I'll probably get them...might be a few weeks, but I think your right, for the money they can't be too bad, and if they suck I'll sell em and buy different tires.

You might as well try them. If you're not driving a lot of freeway stuff, just around town, I'll wager you wont notice too much of the "not so good" maners. Don't know how they do in the snow. I never wheeled the K-5 in the snow; no top + no heater + cold snow = NO FUN!!!!!!l
