Am I gonna regret a club clab?
Am I gonna regret a club clab?
I sold my 96 reg. cab because it just wasn't big enough. I've finally found two extended cab short bed 5 speed trucks. One is a 98 12valve and the other is a 2000 24valve. The only difference is the 2000 is a quad cab, and the 98 is a club cab. I really want the 98 for the 12 valve, but am I gonna regret not getting back doors? They both have about the same mileage, and they both are similar in price.
What would you guys do?

Do you have kids or people that have to climb into the back on a regular bassis or do you just throw junk back there?
If you aren't putting people back there you'll be fine with the Club Cab, otherwise go for the quad cab.

I assume your not going to have someone in the back everyday or you'd probably be looking for a true 4 door. With that in mind, I'd actually go with the club cab. The simplicity and reliability of the 12V is definately a plus. And being that it's a 5spd you can get big HP out of it if you wish.
Ive got both a 12V AND 24v - go with the 12V!!!!. A quad cab is nice but if youre used to a regular cab, youll be more than happy with the club cab.
Knowing you have the "million mile pump" on the 12V will make you sleep better at night.

get the 12v, I've only had someone in the back of my quad cab TWICE and both instances were very short trips. my back seat is flipped up 99.99999% of the time. the back seats in these trucks are a joke IMO, my truck is a 2 seater
I prefer the quad cab even though nobody ever sits back there. Sometimes when you are shopping for groceries or other items and need to make several stops and several stores its nice to be able to open the rear door to toss things in there locked up instead of on the bed to be stolen or in my case fresh produce might freeze in the back during winter. It sure beats trying to get things out of the back with a quad instead of a club cab. I cant wait until about 2 more years when I'll have one thats a door all its own back there

I've got to agree with everyone else, the 12Ver is the way to go. Rarely is anyone sitting in the back seat of my truck, I got it more so to stick crap back there in case somebody is sitting shotgun. The 24V is easier to tweak the power but the 12V is more reliable and does get a little better fuel mileage.
My 11yo and 3yo daughters ride in the back seat of my Club Clab on a regular basis and I keep my railroad work gear back there as well. Access is not a problem for us. No regrets here.
I believe that the 2nd Gen Quad Cabs are overrated. While they may offer a minor improvement in access, it's not enough to be much if any kind of deciding factor, in my opinion. If one needs a more accessible back seat, they would probably be better off with real doors and more of a true back seat like a 3rd Gen Quad Cab.
To me a P-pumped 12v is of far more value than a VP44 24v with the almost useless 2nd Gen Quab Cab doors. If you can get the best of both worlds in a 1998 12v QC, more power to you although those trucks come with issues of their own as well.

Well I'm a single guy, and my only pet is my golden retriever. The only person I can ever imagine riding back there is my girlfriends sister if we all go out, or maybe a group of friends if I'm the chauffeur. Other than that, school bags and snowmobile gear is about it. I just wasn't sure if I'd ever regret not having that second set of doors.
I think I'm going with the club cab, gonna call and leave a deposit now.
Thanks guys,
Shawn

I agree with the lack of rear doors not being that big of a deal. I have had both, and don't really miss the rear doors at all. My truck is a two seater till bird season rolls around, and then we regularly have 4 guys in it.
Well since everyone seems to agree about the 12 valve, here is the link.
Edit: P.M. me for the link. I don't want anyone stealing it from me
What do you guys think? Too many miles? I've received some better photos and it looks pretty sound. I'm thinking if I offer 9000-9500 they'd probably take it if I left them a deposit right then and there. If I were to do that, I'd fly down next weekend and drive it home. The mileage doesn't worry me too bad, my big thing is finding a *clean* body.
Shawn
p.s. if someone buys that from underneath me heads are gonna roll
