ABS/Brake Code retieval

My 1996 Ram 2500HD started flagging an error with the brake system. The "ABS"and (sometimes the "Brake") warning light will come on. The brake still operate and function fine. Since this is pre-OBD I and II and no one has the DRB III scanner, is there a way of causing the warning lights to flash a code? The error I am encountering is not a hard error because when I shut the engine off and turn it back on, the error has been cleared. I have the 4 wheel ABS. I appreciate your help,
Mike

I also have a '96, and it takes the OBDII diagnostic connector.

I don't have the factory service manual in front of me, so I cant tell you at the moment if you can get ABS codes in flash-mode or not.

Besides the brake system, the vacuum/climate-control system can also cause the ABS light to come on if low vacuum is encountered. Did you get the ABS warning right after doing something with the temperature or vent-position controls? Those are vacuum operated and will cause the ABS light to come on if you are in a borderline low-vaccum condition.

The manual says you need a DRBIII to grab the codes, so I would bet you need some sort of a compatible scanner to get the codes.

Unfortunately the 96 Diesel model was pre-OBD I/II. It uses the same connector, but not scanner, instead it uses a DRB III. Of course trying to find one is impossible. The manual (OEM Dodge) says to ground pin 13 to retrieve the codes. That would be awesome if pin 13 actually had a wire/pin in it!!!!
