Mine works fine as well. Compass is screwed on mine. Always says I'm heading East.

There is a procedure for that:

(1) Start the engine. If the compass/temperature data is not currently being displayed, momentarily
depress and release the Step push button to step through the display options until you have reached the compass/temperature display.
(2) Depress both the U.S./Metric and the Step push buttons at the same time for more than six seconds, until “CAL” appears in the display, then release both push buttons. The “CAL” in the display indicates that the compass is in the calibration mode.
(3) Drive the vehicle on a level surface, at least fifty feet away from large metal objects and power lines, in all four compass directions, such as driving around a city block several times or driving in two to three complete circles at a slow to medium speed.
(4) When the calibration is successfully completed, “CAL” will disappear from the display and normal compass mini-trip computer operation will resume.
NOTE: If the “CAL” message remains in the display, either there is excessive magnetism near the compass, or the unit is faulty. Repeat the calibration
procedure at least one more time.

Only other adjustment is for "variance," but I doubt that'll help if it thinks every direction is east...

I too have a 99 with 00 in the upper odometer and my compass always says I am heading west. The "cal" light is stuck on with the west reading. I would love to fix it to get a resetable odometer for the trips that would pay milage. ( I use the one on the dash for fuel milage).

My compass works just fine, but I odo doesn't work. It doesn't really bother me too much, but I hate having something on my truck not working right. Several other '99 CTD owners I know have the same problem, nobody has a solution that I know of.

My 99 is working just fine, all aspects of it. But now that all of you yahoos have pointed out so many 99's with problems, it'll probably happen to me! LOL.

With the trip counter not working up top, I would venture to say there is a problem with the wiring between the ODO in the dash, and the trip counter in the overhead. The two should be in unison. Check the harness behind your gauges, that's where I would start.
