3rd Seats in 2nd Gen Truck

Has anyone tried using a 3rd gen seat in a 2nd gen truck? I got to do something to replace the drivers side in our truck. From the seats we have found in the salvage yards, they are no better than ours. If anyone has done this, how much trouble is it to swap them out?

My father has a 1500 that i sat in. The seats seem much firmer than the older ones. When you have a big butt, the firmer seat seems to hold up better. I may just buy one o those 500 dollar seat bottoms from Dodge though, and just have mine fixed on. I can't believe that Dodge sells the styrofoam seat bottom for 500 bucks, when it probably is nthing more than 5 bucks worth of foam.

One thing you might look at is checkin an upholstery shop. Most of them can replace the foam a heck of a lot cheaper than a dealer.

if you have a single cab, you can do it... otherwise, you'll need to get seats out of a vehicle that has the seatbelt integral to the seat

3rd gen seats aren't as comfortable as 2nd gen seats, but clean/firm 2nd gen seats are getting harder and harder to find

My leather is in exellent shape. It is just that where we all tend to slide out on the drivers side is messed up, and flattened out. The seat bottom feels like it is sitting on the floor.

You can switch the seat bottoms side for side. that way the area that you slide in and out on will be up against the console and wont be as noticeable. Or you can find a passeneger side seat bottom in good condition and use that if you can't find a good one from the drivers side. Or like olddodgeowner suggested an uphoulstry shop should be able to pack some more foam or whatever in there for you.

Mopar, the seat bottoms are the same on either side??? If they are, that is exactly what I will do.

Ya they are the same I just put leather uphoulstry on my seats and when I had them apart I switched the bottoms side for side. Worked great.
