300,000 miles !!
That would not make sense. The rings wear out faster than the bearings do. There are countless posts about blowby, which is caused by ring wear, and I do not recall any posts about rod bearings failing.
Thanks GAmes... people were writing about this on the old TurboDieselReg site back about 2002 or so... I was a member there for some years before I found DTR!
Just out of curiosity, have you had to replace your rings with 775,000 miles?

No. The only time I've opened the engine was to replace the head gasket at about 189k and the oil pan gasket about 2k ago. I had my blowby checked last year (maybe 60k ago) and it was very low, about 4 inches. Excessive is something like 12 inches.
