2nd gen to 3rd gen transformation

I see some 02 Rams with old body style and I see some 02's with newer body style. Were there late 02's available with newer body style then or what happened?

02 1500's are in the new body style, 02 2500 and 3500 are in the old body style. In 03, they are all the same body style.
